2018 Coaching Staff

Coach Zing (Team Director & Head Coach)

A pit-stop at the First Colony Aquatic Center during an early morning run in 1998 marked the start of a new passion for Zing Allsopp, and she’s been a member of Fort Bend Masters Swimming ever since.  After swimming several years under Coach Jane Harper, Zing became her assistant until Jane relocated out of state, meanwhile, the Aquatic Center underwent major repairs, and Fort Bend Masters suspended operations in the absence of a practice facility.  In December 2007, the club was reorganized and re-launched at the renovated Aquatic Center, and Zing took over the coaching reins.  In addition to Masters, she also directs a swim program for homeschoolers and teaches swimming technique sessions for youth competitive swimmers and adult triathletes.

A graduate of Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, Coach Zing — as all her young and some of her adult swimmers call her — brings to swimming the same fascination with technique and skill development as she employed in music theory and practice.  Consequently, swim drills form a significant part of the swimming workouts she coaches.  She enjoys helping swimmers discover the small or big adjustments that contribute to more efficient mechanics and improved speed.

She and her husband have two sons who participated in a summer league swim team through middle school.  Both are now in their 20s, one recently married and the other recently graduated from college.

This summer, she and Frank Arriola (Strength and Conditioning Coach) look forward to investing their time and energy in encouraging and developing the swimming skills of the Sugar Creek Gators.  Together, they seek to foster a safe atmosphere for memorable, enjoyable swimming, enhanced by opportunities for skill development and mastery.

Coach Frank (Strength & Conditioning)

The great outdoors — that’s where Frank Arriola thrives and spends the better part of his day.  Retired after 32 years with the Houston Fire Department, Coach Frank is now building on his love of the outdoors and his desire to help others improve their physical well-being by cultivating a new career in Personal Training, having been certified under the National Academy of Sports Medicine.  He is also a certified CPR/AED instructor.  In addition, he continues his personal pursuit of athletic competitions.

A seasoned triathlete with five full Ironman races, five Age-Qualifying Boston Marathons, two 30-hour Adventure Races, and more than five MS150 bike events under his belt — just to name a few — he is also well-acquainted with youth, having served as a camp counselor for young burn victims at Camp Janus Burn Camp, and an adaptive sports camp counselor at Rodger Pepper Camp in Crested Butte, Colorado.  He remains an active catechist for third graders at St. Angel Merici Catholic Church in Sienna Plantation, and enjoys working with youth, especially those 10 and under.

Honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1979, Coach Frank appreciates hard work, commitment, and supportive family and friends.  He and his wife of 41 years have two sons, a daughter, and four grandchildren.

This summer, Coach Frank welcomes the opportunity to engage with the Sugar Creek Gators, and looks forward to spending a memorable and fulfilling swim season with them.
